A signature green building that sets the tone for Uppsala’s newest neighborhood.

A mere ten minute bike ride from downtown Uppsala, next to the city forest lies Uppsala Student Sports Association’s new stadium in the Rosendal neighborhood. In addition to an 8000 square meter arena, the stadium houses five tennis courts, a basketball court with seating for 600 spectators, a gym and a squash court. The facility also has offices, treatment rooms, a restaurant and a salt spa.

Outside, the stadium features three clay tennis courts as well as two padel tennis courts with bleachers for spectators. It’s the surrounding area’s lush meadow that inspired this project. The building’s signature double arched roof is blanketed in sedum, blending perfectly with the landscape while delivering a number of incredible environmental benefits. This green roof improves stormwater management,  equalizes temperatures and boosts urban biodiversity. Furthermore, a living roof  provides the same carbon dioxide reduction effect as the planting of 750 trees. The two facades are clad with vertical panels of pine, heat-treated to a warm silver gray. Great emphasis has been placed on lighting design to accentuate the building’s character. The use of LED lighting significantly  reduces energy consumption.

The venue also offers the opportunity to host conferences and fairs in Uppsala’s largest indoor arena.
